What is Junior Great Books?
Junior Great Books (JGB) is an extracurricular enriched reading program open to students in 1st-5th grade at Windsor Elementary School. Children meet in informal groups with parent leaders to read and discuss selected short stories. The stories include fairytales and folktales from around the globe. Through these stories, students are introduced to themes and prose from other cultures in a setting that encourages critical thinking and fosters a LOVE of reading!!
When do students meet for Junior Great Books?
The Junior Great Books program runs from the end of January up until spring vacation. Students in Grades 1-5 meet once each week for 30 minutes during lunch recess with a parent leader.
How can I sign my child up for the Junior Great Books program?
Registration for the Junior Great Books program takes place in late fall each school year. Permission slips are sent home through backpack mail and can also be found in the Friday Flyer.
Can I volunteer to lead or co-lead a group?
YES! We always need volunteers. The program cannot run without discussion leaders. It’s a great way to get involved!
